Here's our guide to making a coffee shop-worthy cup of your favorite drink at home. The best thing about it? You probably already have all the ingredients in your kitchen. Let us know how it goes.

Brewing guide

You will need:

  • a moka pot (we are using a 4-cup)

  • a french press

  • milk jug or any other pot

  • around 2.5 tbsp coffee

  • milk (if dairy free milk, then barista edition preferably)

Step 1

Boil the kettle. When it's ready, pour the boiling water in the bottom chamber of the moka pot until it is level with the valve.

Place the funnel - the part where the coffee grounds go - into the pot. There should be no excess water coming from the bottom part.

Step 2

Fill the funnel with your favourite coffee, leveling the grounds. However, it is important you do not tamp the grounds.

Screw the moka pot's top on tightly. Use a towel because the bottom chamber will be hot.

Step 3

Place the moka pot on a hob over low to medium heat. Do not expose the handle to the heat.

Step 4

Meanwhile, prepare the milk. Pour it into the jug and put in on the hob next to the coffee.

Step 5

The pressure from the bottom chamber will push a stream of coffee up into the upper chamber. When you hear a hissing sound, or the coffee starts to splash around, close the lid and remove the moka pot from the heat. Let the coffee finish flowing and rest for a minute.

Then pour the coffee into your favourite mug.

Step 6

When the milk is hot, turn off the heat. Pour it into the french press and put on the lid. With slow movements up and down, froth the milk. Do this for about a minute.

Then take the lid off, and swirl the milk around in the french press.

Step 7

Pour the milk slow but steady in the mug with the espresso. Enjoy!

P.S. - when cleaning your moka pot, let it cool off first. Then wash it with warm water, without soap.
